Kali Uchis brings her Red Moon in Venus Tour to The Met Philly

Photos and words by Dani Weinstein

Kali Uchis performed a sold out show at The Met Philly on Sunday, May 7th as part of her North American tour supporting her recently released 3rd LP Red Moon in Venus. With a sound akin to Sade, Uchis’ music is the perfect soundtrack for relaxing or singing in the car. Red Moon in Venus is an ideal mix of Spanish and English, smoothly shifting within each verse.

Escorted up the steps by her dancers, Uchis entered the stage covered in elegant feathers that revealed her incredible beauty once she reached the top. The elevated platform was flanked by twin staircases on each side, archways underneath, and a big screen lit with fluorescent light. One of her dancers hyped up the crowd on the lower part of the stage, while the others swayed their feathers around Uchis and danced to “Frikitona”. Uchis then launched into “Telepatía” from her 2020 Spanish language album Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), and fans instantly swooned over her talent and beauty. She sang 4 covers of Spanish songs and a collection of collabs including “10%” (by KAYTRANADA), “Get You” (by Daniel Caesar), “See You Again” (by Tyler, the Creator), and more. During “Worth the Wait”, a fan was brought up on stage, doing an imitation of Omar Apollo at her festival shows. Not for even one moment was the venue quiet. Everyone was on their feet and looking at the stage with complete admiration. She ended her amazing performance with “After The Storm” (from her 2018 debut LP Isolation) and expressed her gratitude to the Philly crowd.

Kali Uchis will be continuing on tour through May – see all of her upcoming tour dates here and watch her music video for “Moonlight” (from Red Moon in Venus) below.
