Bassist extraordinaire Pictoria Vark made her solo return to the tri-state with a show at Nikki Lopez in Philly on May 15th. The tour was in support of her sophomore LP Nothing Sticks, released in 2025. Vark continues to put her intricate basslines front and center on Nothing Sticks, but pushes into wider styles ranging from stripped-down bass-and-vocal ballads (“We’re Musicians”) to heavy, fuzzy 90s-inspired rock (“Lucky Superstar”).

Vark performed a relatively short set of tracks from Nothing Sticks and her 2022 debut The Parts I Dread. Before diving into “Demarest”, Vark shouted out her New Jersey roots and drew warm cheers from the Jerseyans amongst the crowd. The set featured a standout strip-backed moment where the rest of the band took a quick breather, leaving Vark alone with just her bass and vocals for a stunning rendition of “We’re Musicians”. Vark then tongue-in-cheek introduced a “brand new song” which ended up being a cover of Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up The Sun.” From there, the energy shifted with Vark and company performing heavy hitters like “Lucky Superstar” and “Out” to close out the set.
