Coming to Flemington DIY on 3/18: Miss Bones, TheBandLunch, Steam Enginess, and Lakonika

Rockin’ The ‘Burbs and Flemington DIY are excited to welcome Miss Bones, TheBandLunch, Steam Enginess, and Lakonika to Flemington DIY on Saturday, March 18th. Legit, you do not want to miss this show! Doors are at 6:30pm (music starts at 7pm) and admission is $10 (nobody turned away for lack of funds). Make sure to get there early to catch all the bands… and free pizza while it lasts. There’s also ample parking and food options (including coffee and ice cream) nearby. See additional details in the flyer below and keep reading for more info.

You might remember Miss Bones as one of the bands C.J. Red Mouth name dropped before playing Flemington DIY last summer (with Cats On Film and Mango Core). Based out of Boston, Miss Bones are self-described circus rejects who make queer power pop for anyone who loves scream-singing in the car and/or is currently putting off a load of laundry. Isn’t that all of us? Featuring June Isenhart, Jonah Ko, Jasper Park, and Mat Blum, they just recently released their excellent debut EP Grey Lady. Stream the tasty lead single “McRib” below. They’ll be playing a bunch of other dates in the Northeast later this month, but this will be their sole tri-state appearance so don’t miss it!

Also joining the lineup is the definitive lunch-themed band from Jersey, TheBandLunch (not to be confused with LUNCH the band or The Lunch Band). If you missed them the last time they played Flemington DIY (or even if you didn’t), you’ll definitely want to catch their set. Their latest single “English Ivy” has math-y influences and a killer chorus. As if you needed another reason, word on the street is that they’ll be debuting a new song at the show.

Steam Enginess is a band I’m not super familiar with, but I can get behind their brand of acoustic folk-punk. I’ve listened to their latest LP Lady of the Lake a few times and am definitely looking forward to seeing those songs performed live.

Lakonika

Jersey-based singer-guitarist Juju Gay has been on my radar for a minute, with catchy and humorous songs like “Peg Your Boyfriend” and “Finger Myself Till I Fall Asleep“. Recording as a solo project for about 5 years, she’s now performing as a 3-piece with Harrison Chestnut (bass and vocals) and Chris Mulinos (drums) in Lakonika. While still a relatively new band, they already have a backstory and lore more fascinating than The Elder Scrolls.

Lakonika is the long lost city of the 69½th dimension in the clouds. Surrounded by mountains, this metropolis borders the stratosphere to its north, cloud 9 to its east, and cloud 11 to its west. Heaven is just south of cloud 8, but you’ll have to pass through Hell to get there. Neither locations are recommended by the Lakonikans. The citizens of Lakonika enjoy hiking, smoking, and foraging in their utopia while they listen to the music made by their gods. 99% of entities who move to Lakonika never leave. The only portal out of Lakonika is on the corner of destruction and despair. There are 3 gods of Lakonika who are responsible for making and performing all of the music for their dimension. The gods like to be referred to as delicious cuisine, a 3 piece original recipe and are as follows: a tasty yet crispy drumstick with a solid beat, a saucy but smooth bass with a voice made of butter, and a queer lead singing guitarist who will definitely peg your boyfriend.

This should be fun – Lakonika go on first, so make sure to get to the venue early. Follow us at @rockintheburbsnj and DM me to get on the guest list!
