Show preview: Kyra Camille & the Chameleons, Howls Road, and Pathetica at Flemington DIY

We booked a show! Kyra Camille and the Chameleons, Howls Road, and Pathetica will be playing Flemington DIY this coming Saturday, October 15th. Doors are at 7pm and admission is $10 (nobody turned away for lack of funds). See additional details in the flyer below. Vax and/or masks encouraged, but not required. Halloween costumes also highly encouraged!

New Brunswick, NJ-based Kyra Camille released her excellent debut LP Creature of My Creation early last year – it’s a multidimensional indie pop/singer-songwriter album that’s a perfect companion to sad girl autumn. Standout track “I Wish You Didn’t Love Me” is a dreamy reverb-soaked torch song that is sure to meet or exceed your yearning quota. Camille’s influences are on display on tracks like “Idle Hands” (an indie rock bop in the style of The Strokes – stream below) and album-closer “Shush” (which is reminiscent of the late great Jeff Buckley). She’ll be bringing the full band (i.e., Kyra Camille and the Chameleons) to Flemington DIY – get ready for a treat!

Howls Road (the moniker of multi-instrumentalist/composer/singer-songwriter Emily Pratt) just released “Dark Ritual” along with an accompanying haunting music video (watch below). “Dark Ritual” explores the idea of queer reclamation by drawing a link between the sacred rituals of pagan societies and the rituals of trans people, and how both are demonized and misunderstood. Pratt recently finished recording her debut EP, which she calls “an avant-classical folk pop collection about my experience living on the fringes of society during my coming out as a trans woman”. Her abstract live performance promises to be dynamic, humorous, and occasionally frightening. If the “Dark Ritual” music video is any indication of what’s in store, I can’t wait!

Rounding out the lineup is Pathetica. Based out of Jersey, they’re a 4-piece that formed earlier this year and follow the adage “grrls to the front”. They haven’t yet released any recordings, but I caught some highlights from their performances on IG and they’ll rock your socks off. Make sure to get to the venue early so you don’t miss them!
