Cate Le Bon played White Eagle Hall in Jersey City with Lee Ranaldo last week, in the midst of the oppressive and sweltering heat wave of summer 2022. While the temps soared outdoors, it was a super chill show which was nice to be part of after a busy work week. I’m not super familiar with a lot of Le Bon’s music (which spans 6 LPs and numerous EPs), but I do know that I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to catch her live at one of my favorite venues. Le Bon’s guitar glowed bright orange under the White Eagle Hall lighting as she performed songs from her latest LP Pompeii (the follow-up to her 2019 Mercury-nominated LP Reward) including “Dirt on the Bed”, “French Boys”, “Harbour”, and “Moderation”. Her encore included the song “Are You With Me Now?”, the 2013 track that introduced me to her music in the first place. The show inspired me to take a deeper dive into her discography, as I did feel a bit left out as the crowd sang along to her dreamy and hypnotic songs. Regardless, her voice and songs kept me calm and cool and allowed me to just enjoy the music.
