Preview: Julien Baker at Franklin Music Hall in Philly (9/15)

It’s been nearly 3 years to the day since Julien Baker played a show in the Jersey tri-state. The last time we had a chance to catch her live was at Shadow of the City 2018 in Asbury Park, NJ (pictured above – check out our coverage here) – while it was a solo set in broad daylight in the not-so-intimate setting of The Stony Pony Summer Stage, her heart on her sleeve performance was no less affecting. Shortly after that date, she joined her pals in the holy trinity of boygenius for a star studded North American tour that sadly skipped the Jersey/Philly area (opting instead for 2 nights at Brooklyn Steel) and that’s pretty much all she wrote until the pandemic hit. During the early pandemic days, Baker engaged her fanbase with the occasional livestream/virtual performance, etc. and casually dropped some of her best tracks ever (including “Tokyo“). Early this year, she released her highly anticipated LP3 masterpiece Little Oblivions and shortly thereafter announced a long awaited North American tour. While those early vaccine/pre-Delta variant days were optimistic times, I knew better than to get my hopes up; however, the day is now upon us!

Julien Baker will be playing a show at the 2500+ capacity Franklin Music Hall (the former Electric Factory) in Philly on Wednesday, September 15th. She’ll be bringing a fantastic lineup along with openers Thao (of Thao & the Get Down Stay Down) and Mini Trees. The show is all ages and tickets are still available. FYI, all attendees will be required to show evidence of vaccination OR produce a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to attending the event. Julien Baker must be protected at all costs, so it’s my personal request that you also please wear a mask :) See all of Julien Baker’s upcoming tour dates here.

If you haven’t done so already, check out the amazing stop-motion music video for “Hardline” (from Little Oblivions) below. More recently, Julien Baker released Little Oblivions (Remixes), with contributions from Half Waif, Helios, Gordi, Jesu, and Thao – check it out here.
