Annie DiRusso and Squirrel Flower at The Wonder Bar in Asbury Park

Nashville-based indie artist Annie DiRusso played The Wonder Bar in Asbury Park over MDW along with support from Squirrel Flower. DiRusso is currently touring in support of her debut LP Super Pedestrian, released this past March. I first became acquainted with DiRusso from her 2021 single “Coming Soon“, a Courtney Barnett meets Great Grandpa power pop banger. Musically, Super Pedestrian rocks hard; however, it’s DiRusso’s frank and relatable lyrics that keep me hooked. They opened their set with Super Pedestrian opening track “Ovid” and were joined by exuberant chants from the crowd during the song’s chorus – DiRusso even shredded a vocal guitar solo for the song’s outro. Not to be outdone, “Legs” followed and the energy levels continued to rise. Before launching into “Good Ass Movie”, DiRusso recounted a personal story which actually just ended up being the plot to School of Rock (one of her favorite movies, apparently). As I watched them perform on stage, I kept remarking to myself how much this band rips. Damn, what a fun show and what a perfect way to kick off the summer.

Annie DiRusso will be continuing on tour through mid-June – see all of her upcoming tour dates here. Watch the music video for Super Pedestrian track “Back In Town” below and keep scrolling to see more photos from the show.
