Currently supporting Aly & AJ on their With Love From tour, vocalist, songwriter, and producer Miya Folick played The Fillmore Philly on Sunday, April 16th. A follow-up to her 2018 debut album Premonitions, Folick is set to release her sophomore LP Roach on May 26th (via Nettwerk). Late last year, she released her 2007 EP, which features standout track “Bad Thing” (co-written by Folick, Mitski, and Andrew Wells). Just ahead of her Philly date, she unveiled the track “So Clear“, which followed the earlier release of Roach tracks “Get Out Of My House” and “Mommy“.
My introduction to Miya Folick came by way of breakout single (and Premonitions lead-off track) “Thingamajig“. I was an immediate fan, but missed every prior opportunity to catch her live. With a minimal stage setup, Folick played a short set of mostly new tracks, but started off with “Deadbody”, “Bad Thing”, and “Nothing to See”. Midway through her set, she surprised the Philly crowd with a quick rendition of “Here Come the Sixers” (i.e., 1 2 3 4 5 Sixers) which she learned from her sister and claimed to have been practicing all day. She ended her set with “Get Out Of My House”, a song that I’ve had on repeat since its release in January.
After wrapping up her stint with Aly & AJ, she’ll be joining The Head and the Heart and Father John Misty for a handful of tour dates. See all of her upcoming tour dates here. Check out her music video for “Bad Thing” below and keep scrolling to see more photos from the show.
