Froggy Prom: obliterating school dances one mosh at a time!

Photos and words by Gemma Lopena

I feel like every school dance has a similar breakdown when it comes to the music played – 75% rap that has low danceability, 15% early 2000s pop, 8% whatever songs are excessively played on the radio, and 2% “Mr. Brightside”. This is the basic template. However, a few weekends ago, Froggy liberated the young people of Doylestown from the perpetual cycle of mediocre proms. Their prom had live music from five local bands – Pinewood Derby, Dead Love Triangle, Heatloaf, I Hate Homecoming, and (of course) Froggy.

Froggy is a three-piece punk/riot grrrl band from the Philly area, consisting of Morgan McClain (guitar and vocals), Brooke Feenie (bass and vocals), and Fiona Boyd-Clark (drums). With gritty, cutthroat vocals encapsulating the badassery of feminism (and nachos) and punchy instrumentals to match the energy, Froggy has carved out their rightful place in the punk scene. Their career really started picking up momentum this past September with their 7-Eleven sponsored music video for “7-Eleven Nachos” (see below). They’re also a hot topic on Preston & Steve and were able to snag a gig at the MMRBQ. Additionally, their beloved song about the unparalleled cheesy convenience store snack is going to be featured in the movie Clerks III (by director Kevin Smith). So much exciting news!

Since Froggy is so epic, it’s only natural that Froggy prom was equally as epic. It was a sold out event, with the coolest and most eccentrically dressed members of society joining forces to mosh, crowd surf, and scream-sing all their favorite tunes.

Froggy released their debut EP, Sopa de Elote, in February of 2021. They also recently released two singles, “Jimmy’s Song” and “Stupid Rich Boy”, and Froggy fans are anticipating a new album release soon. I can’t wait to listen to what they have in store!
