Doylestown, PA-raised Natalie Mering, who performs and records under the moniker Weyes Blood, played a sold out show at Johnny Brenda’s in Philly on Saturday, June 1st. She’s currently touring in support of her spectacular latest LP Titanic Rising. The LP totally flew under my radar until I randomly heard the track “Everyday” playing on WDVR 89.7 FM (a local listener-supported radio station based in the boonies of Sergeantsville, NJ of all freakin’ places) and I’ve been streaming it on repeat ever since. “Everyday” is a timeless Karen Carpenter-esque orchestral pop masterpiece and its accompanying video (see below) is a throwback to slasher flicks of yore. While the first 3 tracks of Titanic Rising rank among my “Favorite First 3 Songs of Any Album” ever, the rest of the album does not disappoint (FYI, Pitchfork recently gave the album “Best New Music”). If that’s not enough, she’ll be opening for Kacey Musgraves this fall as part of her “Oh, What a World: Tour II”. Someone ’bout to blow up!
