Brooklyn-based indie rock/power-pop band Charly Bliss performed at The Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, NJ on Friday, March 8th. Their first ever show in New Jersey, it was a preview of things to come for their upcoming US tour coinciding with the release of their highly anticipated sophomore LP Young Enough (being released on May 10th on Barsuk Records). Their 2017 breakout LP Guppy has the kind of fuzzed-out guitars, irresistible hooks, and yearning angst that make it possible for one to quit Weezer cold turkey. The band recently released 2 new songs (and respective music videos) from Young Enough titled “Capacity” (music video below) and “Chatroom“. While these tracks are a departure from Guppy (into poppier territory), frontwoman Eva Grace Hendricks assured the crowd that the new album will have no shortage of guitars – a point that Hendricks made absolutely clear as she played her super-shmexy Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent guitar on another new song (of which I do not know the name, but you can check out the full Young Enough tracklist here).
Watch the official music video for “Capacity” below – of note, the music video was directed by Michelle Zauner (aka Japanese Breakfast – see her cameo at the 1:30 mark in the video). Charly Bliss will be back in the area again when they play The Foundry in Philly on June 6th and then again on July 12th when they play the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. See all of their upcoming tour dates below.
Asbury Park hometown trio Algebra II was the opener – I definitely plan on catching them again next week when they play at Flemington DIY on Saturday, March 16th.
