Kurt Vile brought a stellar line-up to the newly re-opened Met Philly (formerly known as The Metropolitan Opera House) on Saturday, December 29th. The show was the last date of the tour supporting his Bottle It In LP, Vile’s 7th solo album (released just this past October) and a follow-up to his 2017 collaboration with Courtney Barnett (i.e., Lotta Sea Lice). Opening for Kurt Vile & The Violators were Matador Records label-mate Snail Mail and NJ-native indie rock luminaries The Feelies!!! In his hometown of Philly, Kurt Vile is indie rock royalty – chants of “Delco” erupted from the crowd and Vile acknowledged them by responding “I’m among my people.” Mid-way through their set, the audience gave the band a standing ovation after they performed “Wakin On A Pretty Day” from 2013’s Wakin On A Pretty Daze LP. Throughout their set, couples danced and the Jelloman Paul Vile wandered the aisles shooting video on his phone like it was no biggie. Chill times, indeed. You can see the full setlist below. Notably missing was a performance of “One Trick Ponies” (from Bottle It In), which (in case you didn’t know) just made some classy fella’s year-end list.
