Oh Pep! @ World Cafe Live | Philadelphia, PA (10/22/2018)

Australian duo Oh Pep!, consisting of Olivia Hally (“Oh”) and Pepita Emmerichs (“Pep”), performed at World Cafe Live in Philly on Monday, 10/22. They’re currently touring in support of their upcoming sophomore LP I Wasn’t Only Thinking About You… (set to be released on October 26th), their follow-up to 2016’s critically acclaimed Stadium Cake. You can stream the whole album now over at NPR Music and read their review while you’re at it.

While Oh Pep!’s brand of indie pop/folk has been likened to fellow Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin, their sound tends more often to the toe-tapping/danceable end of the spectrum. The album’s lead single “What’s The Deal With David?” is an upbeat and infectious pop gem (official music video below). During their set, Hally shared a story with the audience about the shooting of this video and how she had grossly underestimated the number macarons to bring for everyone involved. As they progressed through their set, the duo gave the audience a choice of bringing the energy up then down or down then up, to which the audience responded with a mix of “up” and “whatever you want to do”. They closed out their set with a heartfelt performance of “Tea, Milk & Honey” before retiring to the merch table to mingle with fans. See their full setlist below and keep scrolling to see more photos from the show including opener Natalie Butts (formerly of The Sun Flights).
