Brazilian dance-punk band CSS performed at Union Transfer in Philly on Tuesday, 7/2 (IO Echo was the opener). CSS (short for Cansei de Ser Sexy [Portuguese for “got tired of being sexy”]) is currently touring in support of their recently released (Dave Sitek-produced) LP Planta (listen on Spotify). Below is the official music video for their first single from Planta, “Hangover” (which was co-written by Tim Armstrong of Rancid).
CSS first came onto the scene in 2006 after they released their eponymous debut album on Sub Pop Records – it featured such tracks as “Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death From Above” and “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex”. While no longer on Sub Pop, frontwoman Lovefoxxx still brings her trademark in-your-face stage antics and banter that are still just as entertaining and bizarre as they were 7 years ago; however, this time around, she brought along some new tricks including ribbon twirling and giving a twerking demo (something they’ve admittedly just recently learned about).
The ladies of CSS also just recently filmed a series of makeover webisodes – in the first episode, they give their touring drummer JR a makeover (watch here).
Listen to all of CSS’ albums on Spotify and see all of their upcoming tour dates here. The next time they’re in town, GANG should totally open for them.
