File this one in the “destined for humongous-ness” category, folks – Scottish synth-pop trio CHVRCHES made their Philly debut at Union Transfer on Sunday, 6/23 (Still Corners was the opener). CHVRCHES have just finished their first ever North American tour (which started at SXSW in Austin this past March), but they’ll be back in the States again soon to celebrate the release of their debut LP The Bones of What You Believe (9/24 release date).
CHVRCHES played a fairly extended set of previously-, as well as yet-to-be-released tracks. During their set, lead vocalist Lauren Mayberry made all of the requisite cheesesteak and Fresh Prince of Bel Air references; however, the eloquence of her charming yet tentative banter made it even that much more enjoyable. They finished out their set with the excellent “The Mother We Share” (listen to that song below).
Watch the official video for “Gun” (from their forthcoming LP) below and listen to their debut EP Recover on Spotify. FYI, if you missed them the first time, they’ll be back in Philly again (at Union Transfer) on 9/18. See all of their upcoming tour dates here.
