Rising UK electro-pop singer-songwriter Charli XCX performed at Union Transfer in Philly on 6/1 (indie synth-pop trio Little Daylight was the opener). Charli XCX (stage name of Charlotte Aitchison) just released her major label debut LP True Romance (which recently earned her a Best New Music on Pitchfork); however, she might still be best known for penning Icona Pop‘s highly ubiquitous and catchy “I Love It” (yes, that song). Charli XCX’s mission is to “reboot British girl power”, and she brings that empowerment with tracks like “You (Ha Ha Ha)” (see official music video below). During the show, she played other numerous standout tracks from True Romance; however, her performance of the aforementioned “I Love It” had everybody in Union Transfer jumping (video proof here).
FYI, you can stream True Romance in its entirety on Spotify. Charli XCX will wrap up her US tour with a performance at Bonnaroo before hitting the festival circuit in Europe. See all of her upcoming tour dates here.
