Guitarist extraordinaire Kaki King performed at World Cafe Live in Philly on 4/28 as part of her Retrospective Tour, celebrating the 10th anniversary of her debut release Everybody Loves You (which she performed in its entirety). The Retrospective Tour was limited to just 4 US dates in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic and brought her to Boston, NYC, Philly, and DC. She wrapped up her last show on 4/29 (in DC) and will now be heading abroad to Europe, Australia, and beyond. See all of her upcoming tour dates here.
King released her latest LP Glow (listen on Spotify) at the end of 2012, which saw her returning to her more old-school instrumental roots compared to her other recent releases. Watching her perform live, it’s no surprise that she has been hailed as a “a genre unto herself” and dubbed as a “Van Halen meets Bootsy” “New Guitar God” by Rolling Stone magazine. With her tapping and slapping and all around fast fingers and whatnot, it is truly flabbergasting to watch her play guitar(s) live.
Below is a live performance video of Kaki King performing “Great Round Burn” (the lead track from Glow) with the ETHEL string quartet at a recent TEDx event in Manhattan. You can keep up with all of the latest Kaki King happenings on her FB page and Twitter.
