The amazing Kate Nash and (the Rachel Trachtenburg-fronted) Supercute! performed at Johnny Brenda’s in Philly on 3/24. Kate is currently touring in support of her newly self-released LP Girl Talk. See the rest of Kate’s tour dates here. You can listen to Girl Talk, as well as the rest of her releases, on Spotify. Watch the music video for the first single from Girl Talk, “3AM”, here. For more Kate awesome-ness, watch her performing songs from the Buffy musical episode (with none other than Emmy the Great) here.
Supercute! lead singer Rachel Trachtenburg got her start in music at the age of 6 as a member of the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players (with her parents Tina and Jason), a self-described “indie-vaudeville conceptual art-rock pop band” whose songs are based on found vintage slide collections (get a taste of their live performance here). It’s brilliant stuff. As a drummer in the TFSP, she drew comparisons to Meg White; however, more recently, she is the apparent protege of Kate Nash as a ukulele-wielding founding member of Supercute! The ladies of Supercute! are currently finishing up their debut LP (being produced by Kate Nash) that should be out later this year. Below is a Supercute! (and super-trippy) music video for “Dumb Dumbs” featuring a cameo by Kate Nash (as well as Jason Trachtenburg and Andrew WK).
