Pigpen Theatre Co. performed at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on 2/28. This was their first time playing Philly and they said it wouldn’t be their last. Every member of the 7-piece sang in resplendent harmonies and played a variety of instruments (including banjo and accordion)… they even treated the audience to a folk cover of Outkast’s “Hey Ya”!
While also a touring band, PigPen Theater Co. initially formed at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama as a theater company and is known best for their unique brand of award winning plays. They released their debut LP, Bremen, this past fall and just completed a brief Northeast tour in support of it (you can stream Bremen in its entirety on Spotify). Their original Off-Broadway theater production of The Old Man and The Old Moon has won them numerous accolades and acclaim from the likes of The New York Times, Time Out New York, New York Magazine and The Huffington Post, among others. They also just recently completed a residency at Joe’s Pub in NYC – you can watch a full-length concert video from Joe’s Pub here. Below is a video of PigPen Theatre Co. performing “We Stand Alone” (in a kitchen nonetheless).
